Department of Migration and Integration - DMI

What we do and who we are

We help develop a better understanding among all residents of Esslingen – regardless of heritage – and serve as a point of contact, guidance, and centre for information and ideas.

  • Almost 40% of the 86,885 residents of Esslingen have a migration background (MB). Depending on age, in the case of young people and children, the figure is a least or far above 50%. The proportion of overall people with a migration background is growing (As of: 31.05.2013).
  • Of the 40% of Esslingen’s residents with a MG, 75% have lived in Germany or Esslingen for at least 8 years, 41% for at least 20 years and 27% for more than 30 years, or they were born here.
