Landenberger-Prize

Dr. Fritz-Landenberger-Prize

Since 1982, Esslingen has awarded the ”Dr Fritz Landenberger Prize for Historical Research on the City of Esslingen” as a means of honouring researchers for outstanding contributions to Esslingen’s history.

Landenberger Prize

In his last will and testament of 1978, Fritz Landenberger bequeathed one half of his assets to his home town of Schramberg, and the other half to the city that he worked so hard for, Esslingen, for the purposes of ”promoting culture and traditions”.

Since 1982, Esslingen has awarded the ”Dr Fritz Landenberger Prize for Historical Research on the City of Esslingen” as a means of honouring researchers for outstanding contributions to Esslingen’s history.

The director of the Municipal Archives - the establishment which publishes the series ”Studies of Esslingen” in which the treatise appears - puts forward nominees for the award.

The winner of the prize is decided during an executive meeting of the Landenberger Foundation, whose chairperson is the Lord Mayor.

The prize is worth 5,000 Euro.

The Foundation also provides grants for the ”Studies of Esslingen”, for example, and for important restoration works in the Municipal Archives, supports the City Museum and promotes individual projects such as the historical and cultural long-term project ”52 x Esslingen and the First World War”.

The Foundation’s executive board decides on the allocation of funds.
